As you enter Mahurangi Regional Park West on Ngarewa Drive, you will see a small parking area on the side of the road. From there, take the access gate and follow the signs into the paddock above Tungutu Point. Follow the track on the ridge (watch out for sheep droppings!) with fabulous views over Otuawao Bay (Mita) Bay and Mahurangi Harbour. A short marked track also takes you to a viewpoint at the edge of the point, above Otarawao Bay. Bent out of shape pōhutukwawa and puriri trees are a feature of the ridge above the point.
You can also access the point on the Tungutu Loop Track, 1.2 km long, from the car parks at Otarawao Bay to the south of the point. From behind the campground, the track leads through a paddock to a short, steep climb through native forest regrowth to the point. Continue to the ridge above the point to connect with the Mita Bay Loop Track.
