Exploring Kauri Glen's Treetop Walk

Kauri Glen Reserve, located in the North Shore suburb of Northcote, Auckland, is known for its impressive 18-metre high, 60-metre long treetop walk. This unique feature allows you to experience the reserve's deep gully filled with kauri and tānekaha trees from above. Some of these trees are approximately 300 to 400 years old, providing a glimpse into the area's natural history. They aren't the oldest kauri in Auckland, but they are certainly a captivating sight, with the treetop walk providing a unique perspective.

Access Points and Parking

There are several entrances to Kauri Glen Reserve, but the most convenient is from Kauri Glen Road, a suburban street branching off Onewa Road. Parking is limited on the nearby streets, so you may need to walk a short distance or take a bus that stops on Onewa Road.

Te Ara Awataha Greenway

The reserve is part of the Te Ara Awataha Greenway, which follows the Awataha Stream for 1.5 km. This greenway connects Northcote town centre with the surrounding communities. Although much of the stream was buried during housing developments in the 1950s, it can re-emerge during heavy rain!.

How to Get There

To reach Kauri Glen Reserve, head to Kauri Glen Road, accessible from Onewa Road in Northcote.
