Exploring Lake Lyndon and Its Surroundings
Lake Lyndon is located between Castle Hill and Porters Pass, along State Highway 73, as it curves east around the Torlesse Range. This scenic spot on the mostly dry east side of the Southern Alps is an ideal place to pause on your journey, with opportunities for swimming and fishing during the season. The lake's northern end is particularly striking in spring and early summer when wildflowers bloom in abundance.
Travel Options Around Lake Lyndon
For a more remote experience, consider taking the gravel Lyndon Road. This road runs along the southwest edge of Lake Lyndon towards Lake Coleridge. The road is in reasonable condition and is a more secluded route compared to the main highway.
How to Get There
To reach Lake Lyndon, travel south from Arthur's Pass on State Highway 73, 51 minutes and 62 km, or west from Christchurch, 80 minutes and 92 km.
Other places to visit on a trip through the region include Cave Stream, Lake Pearson, Goldney Saddle and the Bealey Spur.
