Lake Wainamu

Lake Wainamu

Lake Wainamu is another unique Auckland west coast point to visit in the Waitakere Ranges region. You can access it from a small carpark immediately before entering Te Henga.

It is an amazing experience as you either walk over a giant sand dune, or around it along The Waiti Stream that follows the north side of the dune. At the end of the dune is a lake, where the dune is effectively acting as a dam. The best lake swimming is from the edge of the dune.

You can also walk for about an hour around the lake on the Lake Wainamu Track. There is a modest but lovely waterfall at the far eastern end.
