Heading west along the Hakatere Potts Road, you will pass Lake Camp Otautari, just before you arrive at Lake Clearwater. As its name suggests, there is a large freedom campground and facilities, and a track runs around the lake.
The beaches at Lake Camp Otautari are better than at the adjacent Lake Clearwater. However, this is also one of the few lakes in the Ashburton Lakes region where you can use a powered boat, so it tends to be less peaceful than the other lakes.
