Lake Clearwater is one of the larger Ashburton Lakes and is immediately adjacent to the smaller Lake Camp. The lake has the only built-up area around it, with many holiday homes but no shops. There is also a campground there.
You also get access to several hiking options from the hamlet. A loop around the lake (10.5 km) also connects with a track to the top of Mt Guy and the Te Araroa Trail. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours, with a climb of 600 vertical metres, for Mt Guy from the loop track.
