Exploring White Track
White Track offers a rewarding hiking experience in Piha, Auckland, with stunning views and beautiful native forest. This track ascends approximately 200 metres up a ridge from the end of the Marawhara Track, providing panoramic vistas over North Piha and Piha Valley. The track ends on Anawhata Road, with options to continue to Whites Beach, Te Waha Point and Anawhata.
Journey Through Native Forest
The track winds through a recovering native forest, where the lower sections are dominated by nīkau palms. As you climb higher, the forest opens up in several places, with superb views of the Piha Valley and rocky volcanic promontories. Although the path includes many steps, the ascent is mostly gradual and accessible for most hikers.
Reaching the Ridge
As you approach the top of the ridge, you'll encounter a kauri protection cleaning station. Here, take the left turn onto the right-of-way to reach Anawhata Road, with views over Te Waha Point. From the road, a short walk westward leads to another right-of-way that descends steeply to spectacular Te Waha Point at the north end of North Piha and to Whites Beach. You can also follow the road north to Anawhata.
How to Get There
White Track continues from the end of the short Marawhara Track, accessed from North Piha Road. The access is next to a bridge over the Marawhare Stream, shortly before the North Piha Surf Club building.
Other nearby walks include Kitekite Falls and the Maungaroa Track.
