Discovering Pukematekeo in the Waitākere Ranges

Pukematekeo is a prominent peak in the Waitākere Ranges, offering some of the most expansive views in the area. Easily accessible via a one-way road from Scenic Drive, the summit provides a nearly 360-degree panorama, including views across the ranges and towards Auckland. This makes it a must-visit for those seeking breathtaking vistas.

Spectacular Views and Natural Highlights

From the summit of Pukematekeo, you can gaze almost due south to spot the Waitākere Reservoir Dam. With a keen eye, you might also catch a glimpse of the 95-metre Waitākere Falls, the tallest waterfall in the Waitākere Ranges, cascading from the dam into the Toetoeroa Stream. Although the Waitākere Reservoir Walk, which starts from Scenic Drive, leads to the top of the falls, access is currently restricted due to kauri dieback. Therefore, the view from Pukematekeo offers one of the best opportunities to admire the waterfall's dramatic descent.
