Exploring Mikimiki Knob
Mikimiki Knob is a short, easily accessible walk located near the Hinewai Reserve car park on Long Bay Road. This walk takes you across a paddock to a rocky point, offering stunning, uninterrupted views of the east side of Banks Peninsula. From the knob, you can see across the reserve to Stony Bay Peak and around to Ōtānerito Bay.
The 10-minute walk to Mikimiki Knob is straightforward and well-signposted, making it suitable for most visitors.
How to get there
To reach Mikimiki Knob, take Long Bay Road from State Highway 75, with the turnoff just north of Akaroa. Continue across the intersection with Summit Road to the Hinewai Reserve car park on Long Bay Road. From the car park, follow the signs across the paddock to the rocky point.
There are multiple walking options within Hinemoa Reserve, including the beautiful Hinewai Beech Forest. Nearby Brocherie's Road provides another access point to the reserve and a hike to the top of Stony Bay Peak. Other attractions accessible from Summit Road include Le Bons Bay and Okains Bay.
