Wainui Bay

Wainui Bay is one of several bays at the east end of Golden Bay, accessible from Abel Tasman Drive. From Tata Beach, Abel Tasman Drive winds over Abel Tasman Point and down into Wainui Bay. Behind this bay is the wide Wainui Inlet, which largely empties of water at low tide, exposing a wide expanse of golden sand.

At the end of Abel Tasman Drive, you can drive into Abel Tasman National Park on very windy Totaranui Rd to access the Abel Tasman Track, a Great Walk. Alternatively, take McShane Road for the short coastal walk to Taupo Bay, northeast of Wainui Inlet.
