Waiau Uwha River Bridge

The Inland Road to Kaikōura ends (or starts) at Waiau. In this small town, you will find one of the longer one-lane bridges in New Zealand over the Waiau Uwha River. It has some passing bays on the river bridge, so you can probably get away with a brief photo stop above the river, a fine example of a South Island braided river. Try to do this section later in the day as the sun sets.

Beyond Waiau, the road connects with State Highway 7 to Hanmer Springs, a section of the Alpine Pacific Touring Route.
