Lake Otuhie

The Lake Otuhie Track is about a third of the way between Paturau River and Anatori in Golden Bay. The track access is marked on the side of the road with a parking area.

The walk is scenic and flat, normally taking only an hour to return. But in this case, Kowhai Creek, which runs beside the first section of the track, had flooded from the earlier rain, and the normally sedate ford was running high.

So we followed the signs to an alternative and rather ramshackle farm bridge (with a scramble along the eroding cliff above the creek for good measure). Unfortunately, the field in front of the lake was flooded, with an electric fence. At least the photos came out well, plus an excuse to try again!
