Huia

On the road to Little Huia and Whatipu, Huia is not the prettiest of the Waitakere beaches. The bay encapsulates a large sand/mud flat exposed at low tide. But you can walk and explore right to the bay's edge and get some amazing photos of the small town and surrounding bush and trees reflecting off the flats!

There are also a couple of other points of interest – a viewpoint over Huia and towards the Manukau Heads just as you head down the hill to the township and a couple of beautiful old pohutukawa trees at the west end of the beach. Also, if you walk around the cliffs at the east end of the bay, you may notice young kauri trees living right on the edge!

Continuing down the road takes you to Little Huia, with its overhanging rocky peak. At low tide, it has a small beach and many rock pools. Fishing from the side of the road is also popular.
