Accommodation and Amenities

While Whiritoa offers a peaceful escape, accommodation is limited to local baches, as camping is not allowed. However, you will find a store and café to meet your basic needs during your stay.

Walking to Waimama Bay

A visit to Whiritoa isn't complete without a walk to Waimama Bay. The track, approximately 1 km long, begins at the car park at the northern end of the beach. Cross the estuary and ascend to the cliff top to explore a historic pā site. Continue along the cliff to a second pā before descending to a small beach surrounded by pōhutukawa trees. The coastline below the cliffs is also popular for fishing and snorkelling.

To visit Whiritoa, take State Highway 25 between Waihi and Whangamatā. The beach community is a short detour from the highway, making it an easy destination for a day trip or a quiet coastal getaway.
