Torbay Cliff Walk

Discover the Torbay Cliffs

From Browns Bay, the North Shore Coastal Walk, part of Te Araroa, heads around the rocky coast to Tipau Point, then below the Torbay Cliffs to Torbay and Waiake Beach. This low tide walk is particularly appealing for its dramatic cliffs and the unusual sight of a yacht wreck about halfway along the route.

Discovering Rock Pools and Unique Finds

As you walk along the rocky coastline, overhung by pōhutukawa trees, you'll encounter numerous rock pools, especially as the tide recedes. These pools are home to vibrant orange-to-red rocks, adding a splash of colour to the landscape. For collectors, the sandier sections of the walk are a good source of sand and wave-polished sea-glass pieces.

How to Get There

To begin your walk, head to Browns Bay on the North Shore of Auckland. From Downtown Auckland, take the northern motorway to the Albany off-ramp, then head northeast on Route 27 to Arran Road. Arran Road takes you to Glencoe Road, then Anzac Road to the beach. Walk north along the beach to round Tipau Point at low tide. If the tide is in too far, start from Waiake Beach, reached on Beach Road from Browns Bay.

North of Torbay on the coastal walk is Long Bay Regional Park. South of Browns Bay is Rothesay Bay and Murrays Bay.
