Discovering Owharoa Falls
Located in the scenic Karangahake Gorge on Waitawheta Road, just off State Highway 2 and the Hauraki Rail Trail, Owharoa Falls is a captivating destination. Known for its distinctive fan shape, this waterfall is one of the most picturesque in the country. The falls are easily accessible and provide a lovely spot for relaxation and photography.
Exploring the Top of the Falls
Beyond the main waterfall, you can explore a series of smaller falls and slides by continuing up Waitawheta Road and stopping near the bridge above Owharoa Falls. From there, walk onto the bridge for this less well-known view of the stream.
Nearby Trails and Campgrounds
From the bridge, you can drive along Waitawheta Road to Kennedy Road, then onto Dickey Road, which leads to a charming campground at Dickey Flat. This location serves as a gateway to the Windows Walk and other trails within the Karangahake Reserve. The trails on the northeast side of the range offer diverse hiking experiences.
