Exploring the Onemana Walkway
Located on the southeast coast of the Coromandel Peninsula near Whangamatā, the Onemana Walkway offers a scenic adventure beyond Onemana Beach. This track is an opportunity to explore the stunning coastal landscape, with a moderately steep path leading from the southern end of the beach to a car park atop the south point.
Walking the Track
From the car park, you can enjoy a walk along the cliff edge to Pakahakaha Bay, also known as Octopus Bay. The views along this route are impressive, but exercise caution near the cliff edges.
Another Hidden Gem
Reaching Pakahakaha Bay and beyond reveals one of the area's lesser-known treasures. Alternatively, the forestry roads at the southern end of the peninsula provide access to a short walk to another local gem, Pokohino Beach.
Getting to the Onemana Walkway
Onemana Beach is accessed from State Highway 25 on Whitipirorua Road, north of Whangamatā. From the southern end of the beach, follow the track leading to the car park at the top of the south point, or you can drive directly to the car park and start your walk from there. The walkway is a 9-minute, 9 km drive from Wnangamatā.
Other beaches on this part of SH25 include Pauanui, Opoutere and Whiritoa.
