Exploring Onemana Beach

Onemana Beach is located on the Whangamatā Peninsula on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island. Whangamatā Harbour is to the southwest and Wharekawa Harbour to the northwest. This beautiful beach, with golden sand and surf, is a particularly peaceful retreat, with a small community and limited services, away from the main highway. The beach is also patrolled by the local surf lifesaving club from late November to Easter.

Discovering the Onemana Walks

At the southern end of Onemana Beach, you can access the Onemana Walkway. This path takes you along the edge of cliffs to Sandy Pakahakaka Bay (also known as Octopus Bay). From there, you can work your way south to more small sandy beaches. You can also drive north of Onemana Beach on gravel Normans Road to access Pokohino Bay. Park in the car park, then it's a 15-minute steep walk down to the beach.

How to get there

To reach Onemana Beach, take the access road from State Highway 25, located about four kilometres north of Whangamatā. This route will lead you directly to the beach. Onemana is a 2-hour drive, 160 km from Auckland.

Other nearby beaches to explore include Opoutere and Whiritoa.
