Discover Ocean Beach in Hawke's Bay
Ocean Beach, located in Hawke Bay, is a stunning golden sand surf beach situated between Cape Kidnappers to the north and Waimarama Beach to the south. Despite being 37 km from downtown Napier, it offers a more appealing alternative to the pebble city's beaches and is a favourite among surfers. The beach is known as Waipuka by the small, predominantly Māori community nearby.
Scenic Drive and Beach Activities
To reach Ocean Beach, take the scenic route from Havelock North via Waimarama Road, then continue onto Ocean Beach Road. The drive passes Te Mata Peak and then through picturesque hilly farmland, with a narrow and steep descent leading to the beach.
During summer, surf patrols are present; it is advised to swim between the flags and exercise caution if swimming outside these times. The beach stretches 10 km, offering ample space for walking. Additionally, driving on the beach is possible at low tide.
How to Get There
