Discover the Monowai Lookout Track in Fiordland National Park
Located in Fiordland National Park, the Monowai Lookout Track is a short and easy walk that offers a scenic journey through a mature beech forest. Starting from the Lake Monowai car park and campsite, this track leads you to a stunning view over Lake Monowai. The forest is richly adorned with vibrant green moss and lichen, creating a lush atmosphere.
A Scenic and Accessible Walk
The Monowai Lookout Track is just over 1 km long and takes approximately 20 minutes each way. At the viewpoint, you will find picnic tables and bench seats, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
As you walk, keep an eye out for various fungi, fallen logs, and lichens. You may also encounter stones with paintings or messages left behind by previous visitors.
This walk is an excellent addition to a visit to Lake Monowai, providing an accessible introduction to the beech forests of Fiordland National Park. The track's easy terrain makes it suitable for most visitors, offering a peaceful escape into nature.
How to Get There
To reach the Monowai Lookout Track, take Lake Monowai Road from the Southern Scenic Route, between Manapouri and Clifden.
From the car park, you can also access the Green Lake Track, a two-day hike to the Borland Road, via Green Lake. You can also drive the Borland Road, with a range of other walking options, including the short Borland Nature Walk and the Mount Burns Tops Track at Borland Saddle.
