Discover Momorangi Bay

Momorangi Bay is a long-standing holiday favourite on Queen Charlotte Drive, 14.2 km and a 20-minute drive from Picton, 19.7 km and a 23-minute drive from Havelock. The bay lies within Grove Arm of Queen Charlotte Sound and is surrounded by regenerating forest and high hills of the Sound. There is a DOC campsite with powered and non-powered sites tucked among native bush, and in Summer, the bay fills with families swimming, fishing, and kayaking. If you want to stay there, pick a time outside NZ public holidays. There is also another campsite about 1.2 km west on Queen Charlotte Drive at Aussie Bay.

Behind the campground, the Momorangi Forest Experience is a short interpretive track through regenerating bush. Panels explain the surrounding trees and birds, and highlight ongoing pest-control efforts.

Boating and Water Access

A wharf and small boat ramp make Momorangi a launching point for boating and kayaking in Grove Arm and the wider Queen Charlotte Sound. The bay is sheltered from southerlies but more exposed to westerly winds.

Getting There

Momorangi Bay is 14 kilometres from Picton or 19.7 km from Havelock on Queen Charlotte Drive. The Link Pathway connects it to Ngākuta Bay, either on foot or by bike.

Other places to visit around the Grove Arm are Anakiwa and the hidden gem of Governors Bay.
