Discover the Milford Sound Walking Track

Located in the heart of Fiordland National Park, the Milford Sound Walking Track is an accessible loop trail that begins at the main Milford Sound car park. This track offers a unique opportunity to explore the southern edge of Freshwater Basin, winding through native trees and shrubs. Along the way, you'll encounter several viewpoints showcasing the dramatic landscape, dominated by the towering Mitre Peak, which rises to 1,683 metres. Informative panels along the track provide insights into the region's diverse flora and fauna.

Scenic Highlights and Natural Beauty

The Milford Sound Walking Track offers stunning reflections of the surrounding forest and mountains in the basin's waters, especially when the water is calm at high tide. During low tide, you can venture onto the sandy flats, where you'll find unusual driftwood and bright green seaweed tufts. The track also provides excellent views of Bowen Falls, which cascades down 162 metres. Visiting during the golden hour, when the sky is clear, can be particularly breathtaking.
