Exploring Hobson Bay Marina
Hobson Bay Marina, managed by the Outboard Boating Club, is located on the southern side of the Tāmaki Drive viaduct in Auckland. Approximately 600 metres southeast of the Parnell Baths and Judges Bay, this marina provides a blend of history and scenic beauty.
The viaduct, originally developed to support the railway line and later Tāmaki Drive, largely separated the bay from the sea, creating an ideal shelter for boats. Today, the marina provides moorings and facilities for easy access to the Waitematā Harbour.
A Scenic Spot for Walkers and Cyclists
Hobson Bay Marina is a picturesque spot for walkers and cyclists as they cross the Tāmaki Drive viaduct. When the tide is in and the bay is calm, it is a captivating photo opportunity. The bay is enhanced by a collection of historic boat houses located at the far eastern end of the bay, lying below the pōhutukawa-covered cliffs of Ōrākei.
How to Get There
To reach Hobson Bay Marina, take Tāmaki Drive from Downtown Auckland to the viaduct. The marina is situated on the south side, about 600 metres southeast of the Parnell Baths and Judges Bay.
Continuing on Tāmaki Drive will take you to the eastern bays - Ōkahu Bay, Mission Bay, Kohimarama and St Heliers, as well as Bastion Point.
