Shortly after departing Pukaki, turn onto the metal road on the west side of the canal. This road leads you to the quaint Lake Poaka, where you can find a campground perfect for a peaceful stopover. Continuing a few more kilometres down the road, you'll reach the even more enchanting Loch Cameron. To access the loch, cross over the canal bridge when you encounter it; Loch Cameron will be on your left. These two small lakes are beautiful year-round, offering stunning views regardless of the season.

Visit Twizel

Just a short drive from Loch Cameron lies Twizel, a town originally established to support the region's hydro development. Today, Twizel has evolved into a vibrant tourism hub, boasting excellent cafés and restaurants in its town centre.

How to Get There

To begin your journey, head out from Pukaki and take the turnoff onto the metal road on the west side of the canal shortly after leaving the town. Follow this road to reach Lake Poaka and continue further to Loch Cameron. After visiting the lakes, you can continue on to Twizel for a delightful stop in this growing tourism centre.
