Exploring the Beach
Upon arrival, you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the beach, especially as the tide recedes, revealing easy walking paths below the cliffs to the north. The bay's secluded nature and scenic beauty make it an ideal spot for photography, with the lush greenery and coastal views offering opportunities for capturing memorable images.
How to Get There
To reach Kaitarakihi Bay, head towards Cornwallis and Huia on Huia Road. Shortly after passing the Kakamatua Inlet track turnoff, look for the sign indicating Kaitarakihi Road. Follow this road for about 200 metres to find a small parking area designated for the Spragg Memorial Track. This track offers a short 20-minute walk each way into the unusual gumlands ecosystem, and is similar to the Puponga Point track. Continue down the hill from the parking area to reach the beach.
Nearby, visit the historic Cornwallis Wharf and walk the fabulous Karamatura Track.
