Warrens Creek Track

Access to Warrens Creek Track is opposite the entrance to the Akapoua Campground on Aotea Great Barrier Island. Take Kaiaraara Road, south of Port Fitzroy, to get to the campground.

Follow the track for about 20 minutes through forest regrowth until it reaches a modest waterfall. Keep going above the waterfall along the stream to a larger two-level waterfall. You can clamber up the first level, where there is a good-sized swimming hole. As a bonus, we also saw a juvenile eel.

The track then continues up a series of steps to a ridge (no substantive views), goes through a section of exotic pines, and drops back to the road about three hundred metres from the entrance. The circuit takes about 45 minutes or so.
