The Wairau River runs along the north side of the wide Wairau Valley. It then heads southeast to exit about halfway along Te Koko O Kupe Cloudy Bay. The river mouth by Wairau Bar is also the connecting point for the Wairau Lagoons.
The river is accessible in many places along the valley, but these photos were taken over the bridge behind Spring Creek, a hamlet just north of Blenheim. On the way to the river mouth, there is a parking area immediately after turning into Wairau Bar Road. From there, you can also walk north along the river on Bothams Bend Track for about 1.5 km.
