As you round Takapuna Reef heading north on the North Shore Coastal Walk / Te Araroa, you will see the very cute Thorne Bay beach. This is a small golden sand beach between the reef and a further stretch of rocky coastline. It is a great place for a dip and to just hang out, although it can feel pretty crowded on a nice day.
Houses back the beach and there is no public access except via the coastal walk.
