Discover Tasman Lookout Track

Located at the south end of Piha, the Tasman Lookout Track provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including Lion Rock and Taitomo Island. Although currently closed due to slips and landslides, this track is known for its scenic viewpoints, making it a popular spot for sunset watchers and surf enthusiasts.

Track Description and Highlights

The track begins next to the car park below the cliff at Piha Beach. As you ascend the narrow path, safety rails guide you through sections with steep drops. The climb rewards you with impressive views of Lion Rock. At the top, a viewpoint with a stone wall offers a panoramic vista of the beach, Taitomo Island, and The Gap. This spot is ideal for enjoying sunsets and observing surfers at the beach's south end.

Continuing along the track, you'll reach a second viewpoint with an even better perspective of The Gap and Taitomo Island. The track ends at beach level behind The Gap, allowing you to walk back along the sand between the island and the cliff to Piha Beach when the tide is low.

How to Get There

To access the Tasman Lookout Track, head to the south end of Piha Beach on Beach Valley Road. The track entrance is located next to the car park below the cliff.

Other nearby options include the Blowhole, the caves of North Piha, Kitekite Track and the Matawhara Track.
