Map place names in Aotearoa, New Zealand, can be downright confusing. State Highway 60 in Golden Bay, north of Collingwood, from Taimatea Point (or the hamlet of Waikato) to Tomatea Point (or the hamlet of Pakawau) is one such point of confusion. These names do not appear on Google Maps, but a 4 km beach is between them. The beach has no official name, but is Pakawau Beach on Google(!) In any event, beach access is at each of the two points.
The weather had cleared a little when we visited. The sand has a golden tinge, and the driftwood provides a point of contrast.
