If you continue past Whangapoua and Okiwi on Aotea Great Barrier Island, you will arrive at Port Fitzroy. On the way, you will also pass access to Coopers Castle Track, which goes all the way to Hirakimata. There is a store, cafe and takeaway shop. Just before the store, there is a turnoff to Glenfern, where there is a fenced bird sanctuary. This is also the start of a 30-minute hike to a viewpoint above the harbour and to the lower Old Lady Walk.
Driving past the wharf, you can access several other tracks and the Akapoua Campground. This includes a waterfall on Warrens Creek and Forest Road, which you can hike or bike to and which connects to the Aotea Track for hikers.
