Otama Beach

Otama Beach is a beautiful, relatively remote beach in the Coromandel. Turn off State Highway 25 at Kuaotunu onto Black Jack Road, which winds high above the coast and over Black Jack Hill. As you come down the hill, Otama Beach appears in front of you. Take the parking immediately off the road. Or drive to the hamlet at the far end of the beach to park.

Because it’s a bit of a hassle to get there, and there is no significant holiday town, you’ll probably have this perfect East Coast beach to yourself. You can also continue on Black Jack Road to Opito Bay, where there are a few more houses.

As a quiet beach, there is no surf patrol, so be extra careful if you swim.
