The Miramar Community Gardens (also Miramar Prison Gardens) are on Te Motu Kairangi / Miramar Peninsula, Wellington. They are just below and on the west side of the derelict Mt Crawford Prison, behind the pine trees.
It is somewhat unusual to see shared gardens around NZ, and in early Spring, they are full of flowers and colours, both native and exotic. The northern end is marked by an old “prison gardens” sign by the road down to the gun emplacements. Quite the contrast with the foreboding look of the prison.
