Lizard Bay

Lizard Bay (also known as Lizzie) is about 15 minutes from Opito Bay. Follow the Akeake Point Historic Reserve Track sign from the east end of the bay. This climbs 60 metres up steps to the ridgeline, between a couple of houses and then in regenerating native forest. Continue down a short, steep track to Lizard Bay from the ridge.

The bay has a pebbled short beach on Te Puna Inlet in the Bay of Islands that looks northeast towards the southern tip of Purerua Peninsula. It is generally relatively sheltered from the wind, with the forest and shrubs to the beach's edge. It is safe for swimming and an option to avoid the relatively busy beach at Opito Bay.
