Grove Track

We are always loath to describe a walk as one of “the best” in New Zealand. There are so many interesting walks to choose from. But if we had a top track competition, Grove Track would be in it. The walk is only about 30 minutes at a slow meander and can be found near the corner of Clifton and Rocklands Roads, about 10 10-minute drive from Tākaka, Golden Bay.

The track climbs 50 metres through a modest patch of established forest, growing out of and amongst a vast range of exposed karst rock shapes and boulders. Towards the top, there is a narrow slot canyon, rich with thick vines, that leads to a high viewpoint over the Tākaka River valley and the nearby coast.

Make sure you spot the tree growing over the enormous boulder right beside the car park as well!
