If you’re on the West Coast around Hokitika, you can adventure on the backroads to Kokatahi. This takes you to the southern end of Lake Kaniere and pretty Dorothy Falls.
Stop at the falls for a one-minute walk. Then, cross back over the road to a short forest walk to the lake. You can also walk or cycle the 10.1 km, four-hour Lake Kaiere Walkway along the western shore. There is a DOC campsite at Hans Bay at the north end of the lake.
