Discover the Riuwaka Resurgence Track
Nestled just inside Kahurangi National Park, Te Puna Wai o Riuwaka / Riuwaka Resurgence Track offers a captivating experience for visitors. This short and easy 30-minute return walk is highlighted by the lush moss and lichen that blanket the rocks and trees along the Riwaka River rapids. The vivid green landscape is punctuated by the colourful array of rocks and river stones, creating a stunning visual tapestry.
The Sacred Resurgence
The track leads to the river's resurgence point, where the Riwaka River emerges from an underground cave system under Tākaka Hill. This site is not only a natural wonder but also holds cultural significance, as the water is considered wāhi tapu (sacred) by local Māori. The water here is both ancient and remarkably fresh, adding to the mystical allure of the location.
