Discovering Winstone Cove

Located north of Waiake Beach in Torbay, Winstone Cove is a lesser-known beach along the North Shore Coastal Walk / Te Araroa. This mostly rocky cove is framed by cliffs adorned with pōhutukawa trees and features small sandy beaches. Its relative seclusion compared to other bays and beaches in the area makes it an ideal spot for those seeking a quieter experience.

Exploring the Surroundings

As the tide retreats, you can explore the rocky platforms from Winstone Cove north around Toroa Point to reach Long Bay Regional Park. To the south, also at low tide, it is a short walk over rocks to Torbay, passing between the Tor (a small flat top island) and the point.

How to get to Winstone Cove

Road access to Winstone Cove is via Gray Crescent, off Beach Road via Rewi Street. Beach Road also connects Winstone Cove to Long Bay to the north, and Torbay and several other beach suburbs to the south.

Other places to explore on the coastal walkway include Long Bay Regional Park and, to the south, Browns Bay and Rothesay Bay.
