Discover Treble Cone: Wānaka's Premier Ski Destination

Located near Wānaka, Treble Cone is famous for its exceptional skiing and snowboarding. This ski field is particularly appealing to intermediate and expert skiers, with a variety of challenging terrains. With two chairlifts and additional areas accessible by hiking, Treble Cone has steep and diverse off-piste and groomed runs that cater to seasoned enthusiasts.

Spectacular Views and Kea

Even if skiing or snowboarding isn't your passion, you can still take the road to the cafe at Treble Cone. The drive up the mountain road is breathtaking, with views of the Matukituki Valley and River, across to the Buchanan Peaks and Mt Alta, and of Lake Wānaka. You quickly climb from 300 metres to almost 1,300 metres to the winter snow, although snow on the road is rarely a problem.

The café is a scenic spot to relax, with outdoor seating areas. Additionally, you might encounter kea, the curious mountain parrots, around the car park and the cafe, adding a unique touch to your visit.

Timing Your Visit

For non-skiers, the best times to visit are between 1.30 pm and 3 pm when the cafe is quieter, and parking is easy to find. The season is typically from early July ot the last week of September with no public access to the field outside the ski season.

How to Get There

To reach Treble Cone from Wānaka, follow Mount Aspiring Road west around the lake to the Matukituki Valley and the ski field access road. The drive up the steep, winding gravel mountain road is part of the experience, with stunning vistas along the way and several places to stop. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the main car park.

Nearby, you can explore West Wānaka, the Rob Roy Peak Track, Glendhu Bay Track. and Diamond Lake and Rocky Mountain.
