Exploring the Te Henga Walkway
The Te Henga Walkway, located near Muriwai on New Zealand's North Island, is known for its breathtaking coastal views and dramatic cliffs. Although the track is currently closed due to slips and landslides, it remains a popular destination for those seeking stunning vistas of the rugged coastline.
Track Details and Scenic Views
The northern access to the Te Henga Walkway begins approximately one kilometre along Constable Road from Oaia Road. The track initially descends 120 metres via steep steps, leading to a relatively flat section that runs above Bartrum Bay. This part of the walk offers spectacular views northward along the cliffs, extending towards the Gannet Colony and Muriwai.
The walkway primarily traverses farmland, and the journey to the coast is about two kilometres, taking roughly 20 minutes. Once at the coast, you can enjoy the impressive cliffs, although the track is currently closed beyond this point.
How to get there
To reach the start of the Te Henga Walkway, head to Constable Road, located near Muriwai. The northern access point is about one kilometre from the intersection with Oaia Road. While the track is closed beyond the initial coastal section, the area still provides opportunities to explore nearby attractions such as the Gannet Colony and Muriwai Beach.
