Discover Tautuku Bay Nature Walk
Located in the Catlins region of New Zealand, the Tautuku Bay Nature Walk provides an escape into ancient rainforest, just 500 metres west along the Southern Scenic Route from the Tautuku Bay beach access road. This easy walk is perfect for those seeking a peaceful experience amidst towering trees and intense greenery, ending at a secluded beach.
A Journey Through Ancient Rainforest
The Tautuku Bay Nature Walk gently descends through a remarkable section of untouched rainforest. This area has never been logged, allowing you to witness the grandeur of large podocarps such as rimu, tōtara, and kahikatea, as well as impressive rata trees. Unlike the more popular waterfall walks in the region, this trail offers a more solitary experience, free of crowds.
The walk is approximately 600 metres long and takes about 15 minutes each way. It is suitable for most people, with only a few steps at the end leading to the beach. The trailhead is located next to the roadside parking.
How to Get There
