Hanmer Springs: an Alpine Retreat

Nestled in North Canterbury, Hanmer Springs is a charming town that forms part of the Alpine Pacific Touring Route. The wide main street of the town is adorned with tall, mature exotic pines, including sequoias and redwoods, which makes it look quite different to other alpine tourist towns in New Zealand. Combined with the hot pools that define its long association with tourism in New Zealand, cafes and restaurants, it is a delightful destination for those seeking a peaceful getaway.

Alpine Charm and Relaxed Atmosphere

Unlike some of New Zealand's more bustling resort towns, Hanmer Springs offers a more relaxed atmosphere, partly due to its location off the main tourist routes. The large commercial hot pools are integrated into the landscape, surrounded by eth big exotic trees that enhance the area. Part of the nearby exotic forest has moved from being a commercial plantation to supporting recreational activities such as walking and biking.
