Allans Beach

Exploring Allans Beach

Located on the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin, southeast of Hookers Inlet, Allans Beach offers a unique coastal experience, especially when the weather adds a touch of drama. While blue skies are ideal, the grey low clouds during your visit can enhance the atmosphere, highlighting the rugged cliffs and wind-blown surf.

Discovering the Beach's Natural Beauty

The beach is one of the more secluded beaches on the Otago Peninsula, providing a sense of remoteness while still being accessible by road. The beach's natural beauty is complemented by its wildlife, including sea lions and fur seals. Their presence provides a great opportunity for wildlife observation and photography.

How to Get There

To reach Allans Beach, take Allans Beach Road from Portobello on the north side of Otago Peninsula. Follow the road around the northeast side of the inlet to its end. From the car park, it's a short walk across a field and through dune grass to reach the beach.

Other nearby remote beach and coastal options include Sandymount, Sandfly Bay and Victory Beach.
