Flat Rock at Tāwharanui Regional Park
Flat Rock is a prominent feature located on the west side of the main beach at Anchor Bay within Tāwharanui Regional Park in Auckland. This spot is ideal for those seeking panoramic views, as it provides sweeping vistas along the beach and out towards Te Hauturu O Toi / Little Barrier Island.
Walking and Access
There are two separate sections of flat rock, with an easy path from the car park to the grassed top of the larger section. This section is bound by cliffs on three sides, with some pōhutukawa trees. It is a perfect location for 270-degree coastal views, and to settle on the grass for a picnic. The second section is cliff-bound and not accessible.
At low tide, you can explore between the two sections of Flat Rock. There is a cave, big enough to walk through, on the west side.
How to get there
Flat Rock is a short walk from the Anchor Bay car park at Tawharahui Peninsula.
There are several other tracks in the regional park, including the Ecology Trail, Fishermans Track, the South Coast and North Coast Track, and the Takatū Track.
